Courses

We offer a range of courses aimed at developing the all the skills required by this ancient technique, so you can create your mosaics independently either as a hobby or as a professional enterprise. During each course students are guided through each step of the work and given ample time to practice and consolidate their learning. Each course begins with selecting or creating a design and then working through each stage of its construction. At the end of the course the student’s work is theirs to keep and take home. Some of the longer courses offer the possibility to be guided through working on a personal project for example table tops or a motif to insert within a large floor area.

Cutting tiles with the hammer
Preparation of the tiles on paper (indirect technique)
Arranging the completed mosaic on grout
Smoothing, plastering and polishing

All materials and tools are provided and we can also advise you on the best places to source these for your future creations.

We offer individual one-to-one course and small group courses. Courses can last a day, a weekend or over a week. Should you require accommodation this is available free of charge to our students.

The courses are offered at our studio in the Arts Pad, a beautiful villa nestled in the Umbrian hills, a short distance from the town of Orvieto and only an hour by train from Rome. The studio also includes a stained-glass studio, a photographic studio and should you want to learn a little Italian whilst you are with us, we can offer this too.
